ENLightenment: Looking Ahead

With another year upon us, it's a good time to take stock of everything that's passed and everything that is yet to come. We asked some of our faculty to share some of their thoughts on things they're looking forward to this year. We hope that their responses inspire our readers in their goals and journeys this 2022.

What is something from 2021 that you are thankful for?

Life. So many people have succumbed to COVID-19 and I can only imagine the grief that their loved ones had to endure. I realized there are so many things in my life I take for granted. So for 2021, I'm just grateful to be alive, as well as those I hold dear. - T. Dannah

I am thankful for accepting things as they are, and for holding on to the fulfillment of my dreams at the same time. - Mariposa

Knowing SB19. Josh, a member of SB19, said in his vlog, no matter what happens, don't ever destroy your life. - Saehee

I'm thankful for all the blessings and trials that have come my way in 2021. It has been tough, but I'm glad that I'm still able to write about how grateful I am. It only means that I have survived and ready to take another year full of surprises planned by my Maker. - Wanderer

Surprisingly, so many things - going out with my sister when restrictions were lifted, starting a new creative project with a friend, and finally going out of town with my friends for the first time in two years. - T. Shani

What is something you are looking forward to in 2022?

My power word for 2022 is TRACK. So many of my life plans have been derailed by the pandemic, but looking back, I think they were all possible. I was just making excuses for myself. So this year, that's my goal... to observe, course-correct, and go back on track! - T. Dannah

I am looking forward to making more beautiful memories. - Mariposa

Normal life. Like being able to make plans with a degree of certainty. - Saehee

I have always planned things ahead. Bucket lists, things to accomplish, and goals have been always my norm when a new year starts. However, 2022 will be different from my previous years. No long lists of goals and things to get because I'm letting go of all my plans that my head and heart desire. There is one thing I'm looking forward to - to let God hold my decisions and plans. - Wanderer

In the words of NCT 127, new things. - T. Shani

Tell us about any resolutions you have for this year.

One is being kinder, more patient, and loving to myself. - Mariposa

To not lose interest in the things I used to enjoy - reading and running. - Saehee

Honestly, I don't have any resolutions. I guess I do have new priorities - to know God more, to make Him known, and give Him glory. - Wanderer

To read a poem whenever I feel sad or insecure, so I remember that (1) I am not alone in my feelings; (2) my problems are miniscule compared to everything else in the world; and (3) beauty can be found anywhere. - T. Shani

Recommendation Corner:

BBC The Green Planet: The Secret Life of Plants - T. Dannah

I recommend listening to podcasts that serve as food to the soul, such as "7 Good Minutes Daily Self-Improvement Podcast" on Spotify. - Mariposa

I recommend Richard Carlson's Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. There's too much negativity in the world already. I also recommend watch all performances, vlogs, showbreaks, music videos of SB19. - Saehee

I would always love to recommend the movie about prophet Hosea. There has been a point in my life that I forgot how much God loves me. Watching the movie, I witnessed how amazing and eternal the love of God is. - Wanderer

The totally real, definitely exists outside of a k-drama, idol band Luna. "Beautiful Breakup" has been on my playlist for three months. - T. Shani
